The “Oketz YamTov” Program is a unique initiative designed for our unit’s veterans. The program combines surfing, peer discussions among graduates from different years, and guided processing of experiences from their military service.

This unique initiative was created through a collaboration between the “Leading the Pack” Foundation and the “YamTov” organization. It combines surfing, peer discussion circles, and guided processing of service and combat-related experiences.

The surfing sessions are led by instructors from The Reef surf club.

Group members face a range of challenging sea conditions—waves that mirror the ups and downs of life itself.

At each session, participants show noticeable improvement in their surfing. After riding the waves, the group gathers for a closing discussion where each participant can choose to share their challenges—whether in surfing, day-to-day life, or reflections from recent operations or regular service—and what they’re taking from the session into the coming week.

From the outside, it’s hard not to draw a parallel between the leash that connects a soldier and their dog, and the tether between a surfer and their board. In both cases, you’re responsible for what’s connected to you—and for the shared bond within a group you’re part of.

See you in the waves 🌊
