Combat Soldiers
The unit recruits approximately 100 male combat soldiers each year in a single annual draft cycle in November.
The Oketz Commando training program lasts about one year and four months.
Requirements: Medical profile of 82 or higher (no disqualifying conditions), Low eyeglass prescription – not disqualifying
Additional Notes: Requires high emotional intelligence and exceptional physical fitness *No prior experience with dogs is necessary
Screening Process
11th Grade: Indicate a strong preference for the unit in the IDF preference questionnaire
12th Grade (Feb.): Attend one of four scheduled Exposure Days
12th Grade (March–April): Participate in one of two scheduled physical screening dates
Pre-Draft Screening (Based on the Special Forces Model)
Selection through a pre-draft interview week for eligible candidates, based on the IDF Special Forces recruitment model. Relevant for those who completed but did not pass selections for Pilot Training, Sayeret Matkal, Shayetet 13, or Naval Officers/Submarines (only for candidates in Screening Window A – January to April tryouts).
Selection also available through the Oketz Unit tryout for those who attended an Exposure Day.
Important Notes
Once you are accepted into the role, you will not be able to withdraw or request to attend selection for another unit.
Combat soldiers are required to commit to one additional year of service (career service).
Female Combat Soldiers
Each recruitment cycle (March, August, and November), about 15 female combat soldiers are accepted.
They undergo a year-long training program, after which they join the operational company.

Initial Screening
Mark “Border Combat Soldier” in the Manila (preference questionnaire for female recruits)
Enlist as a Border Combat Soldier
Pass the Bar-Or fitness test as a prerequisite for the unit’s selection process
Advanced Screening
A two-day physical selection (tryout) conducted during basic training.
Important Note
Female combat soldiers serve a total of 32 months.
